Ali will be at the Dance Hall in Kittery, Maine on Sunday, January 21, 3pm for a screening of her two award-winning films between silences and to be near you., followed by an artist talk. In addition to the screening, she will facilitate a workshop, Expressing Stories Through Movement.
In this workshop, participants use their personal narrative as seeds for creating movement phrases. Through guided explorations and improvisations, participants will be encouraged to use their stories and personal narratives to develop their own movement vocabulary—movement organic to the individual creating it. We will utilize journaling, re-telling, and imagery as the impetus for movement phrases. We all have a story to tell...
Open to all skill levels and geared toward all interested in movement as a means of expression.

One is filmed underwater, and another entirely in an SUV (!!!) with subjects serious to funny, ranging from black men’s struggles to women’s work to pandemic recovery. Many have received awards at Dance for Camera Film Festivals. These films, a relatively new art form in dance, provide viewers with a rare, intimate, up close experience with the dancers.
